On a fine and sunny day on the last Sunday of August in 2021, about 50 cousins of Hamish Malet-Warden gathered for a picnic to remember Hamish under the Steeple on top of the Hill of Skryne.

Most of those gathered were descendants of Hamish’s sister, Elizabeth Hickey,  who has a plaque in her memory erected on top of The Hill.

Hamish, aged just 20 and a new recruit recruit to the RAF, was shot down over Holland in 1941 and is buried out there.

Hamish was well remembered that Sunday on Skryne, 80 years after his death and on what would have been his 100th birthday, when several of his letters home were read out aloud.
